Sally Hansen Commander in Chic

I fixed my nail! Sort of. It's a bit of a shoddy job, but hopefully it will hold my nail together until it grows out. I used base coat, a bit of a teabag, more base coat, and one Incoco French manicure strip (on clearance at Walgreens!) to smooth it out, then put polish on top as usual.

I am so behind the times on this one...I think I must be one of the last nail bloggers on the planet to review Sally Hansen Commander in Chic. I've been really reluctant to by Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure polishes (as of now I only have this and Hidden Treasure), even when I love the color, because they cost more than I generally feel like paying for a drugstore polish. However, when I found Commander in Chic in a clearance bin at Walmart for $5 awhile back, I had to pick it up. It's a greige, taupe-y color, and I don't have anything quite like it, though I know there are several near-dupes out there. The closest color I have is Orly Prince Charming, but Commander in Chic is lighter and greyer than the Orly.

This was two coats of Commander in Chic with top coat. I may be in the minority on this one, but I love the wide brush Sally Hansen uses for their Complete Salon Manicure and Insta-Dri polishes. Maybe I have wide nail beds or something, but they work perfectly for me. The formula was very good to work with, too, and it dried reasonably quickly. I think Commander in Chic is one of those colors that is not only pretty, but is also almost universally flattering - I haven't seen a single swatch of this where it didn't suit the person's skin tone. I'm very glad I got this color, and I have no doubt that it will become one of my go-to polishes.

  3. I was going to post this in your =teddy nail post but I'm not sure if you'll see the new comment so I'll post it here.

you said that you are using Nutra Nail's Nail Thickener with Green Tea. I'm just going to give you my review on it. I had crazy peeling nails and it was not working well for me so I purchased the nutra nail thickener. the exact same one as you. I like it because it is almost like a thick shell that really protects your nails and looks awesome as a top coat for french manicures, my friend thought I had acrylic nails because it was so shiney. so yay! I used 3/4 of the bottle and I didn't really see much results in it which made me sad because I really liked how the nutra gave my nails a protective coat but when I removed it there was still peeling. I used remover with tiny tiny bit of acetone to it. So what I ended up using was seche restore. it's pretty good but i'm still getting a bit of peeling but I saw results faster than nutra nail...then I invested in nu bar nu nails strengthener. this is a godsend! IT is a bit more expensive than seche and nutra but it is incredible. no more peeling at all. I use it as a base coat. and I've been using 100% acetone for removal of glitters and still no peeling. although because it is more expensive I interchange it with seche but it still does any awesome job. so this is what I've found out. maybe you will have better results it nutra than I did...it is a great top coat/ protector though just didn't prevent my peeling. update us on how nutra works for you =)

  5. Pretty- Haha, I'm a slow blogger too...and I think the best reason to blog is for yourself!

shortwidenails- I'm glad I (apparently) did a good job! For future reference, I get an email whenever anyone comments on any of my posts. Anyway, thanks for the tip about Nubar Nu Nails and Seche Restore - I will probably get the Seche first, since it's less expensive and easier to find. Thanks again, and don't worry about the long comment!

  8. Jackie S.- I agree! I didn't have any trouble with the brush, but I think I'd love it even if I did. :)

tasha- Haha, I know most people hate the brushes! I think I know of one other blogger who likes them. Thank you for the compliment as well! I do try. ;)
