Rimmel Rapid Ruby + Nailene Bedazzle Stickers

Rapid Ruby is an old, OLD polish from Rimmel's 60 Second polishes. I've had it for nearly ten years, so I did have to add several drops of nail polish thinner, and I think I may add a bit more. I added crown stickers from my Nailene Bedazzle* pack to my thumbnails and rhinestones from the same pack to my ring fingers, and I'm loving the combination! In these pictures I'm wearing base coat, two coats of Rapid Ruby, the stickers and rhinestones, and top coat.

All these pictures are pretty color-accurate. While Rapid Ruby doesn't look quite that bright in sunlight, it's close, and the pictures taken in shade are nearly spot-on. I love the combination of a classic red and a bit of royal bling - I may start asking people to address me as Your Highness (but not really). :)
The stickers were very easy to apply. I placed the stickers with the end of a toothpick and pressed them down with my fingers. I think I got them fairly well placed, though the one on my right thumb is slightly wonky. The stickers look really perfect - I can't see the edges of the stickers, there aren't any bubbles, and it looks like I actually painted the designs on my nails (excepting the fact that my designs wouldn't be that neat). The rhinestones are fairly bumpy, but they and the stickers have lasted through my morning hair-washing, so I'm pretty confident that they will last. I can't wait to use some of my other nail stickers! Here's what's in the rest of the pack:

clockwise from top left: rhinestones; butterflies and stars; flowers and butterflies; crowns, stars and royal-looking designs

  1. I love the crown stickers and jewels over the red!! So gorgeous and chic. I need to look for that sticker set.

Btw, I've added you to my blogroll. You have a bunch of polishes I don't have, and I'm looking forward to more swatches!

  3. Thanks! It reminds me of these little red notebooks that they have at Barnes and Noble - they're red, they have crowns on them and they say "Keep Calm and Carry On." :)

  4. Your Highness Zara,

I love classic red nail polish....and rhinestones...don't get me going about them. Absolutely fabulous! My sister agrees...she's a classic red gal too...LOL

However, at this moment only my toenails are red...no color left on my fingernails after this weekend. LOL

You seem like a very patient girl, or is it just experience speaking...what I mean is...your nails always look so gorgeous... when I try to paint..I have to be alone, or I might offend someone. LOL

    Hope you're evening is great!

    Love,
    Inga and sis

  5. TOSB- Haha, thank you, loyal subject. ;D And I am definitely not patient - my mother (or almost anyone else I know) could tell you that, lol. However, I am quite the perfectionist, so I have to keep going until I feel my nails are at least "acceptable." :)

  6. YAY thank you for the review! I am definitely a person who is uber obsessed with painting my nails and people always go asking me 'so, what color are your nails today?' LOL So really, your blog is perfect for me!

About adding rhinestones, stickers etc to your nails. I have always been hesitant as to what to choose simply because I am definitely a perfectionist and I 'd hate for it to look 'weird'. You have done it perfectly though and it looks like they are a part of the nail. Fabulous! I will try it out.

I am going to look through your blog but do you have any recommendations as to what you can use to get your nailpolish to stay on longer and also, how to strengthen your nails in general? I know there are a lot of products but a lot of them are bogus...

  7. Caroline- You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoy my blog. As for helping nail polish stay on longer, always use base coat and top coat. Personally, I use Wet n Wild Clear Nail Protector for my base coat (though I'm on the lookout for a new one) and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. I highly, highly recommend Insta-Dri - it does dry quickly and I have never had tip shrinkage problems. I wish I knew more about how to strengthen my nails - as you can see, mine are quite short and that is why. However, I have noticed improvement since I've started using Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthening Cream, which I buy at Walmart. One jar lasts a really long time, it's not too expensive compared to some products, and I really think it's made my nails stronger. Hope this helps!
